SIGMA SPECIALS FOR AUGUST! Hurry!

I am so excited!  This is a quick note to tell you that you can get a free limited edition E05 eyeliner brush from Sigma!  It has a shorter handle, and is a vibrant shade of hot pink!  This is my absolute favorite brush for applying gel or cream liners.  It is pretty much goof proof.  I have two of these brushes, and I intend on getting this smaller one for travel as well.  Not to mention in comes in my absolute favorite color!  HOT PINK!

This brush is FREE with a $30 minimum purchase.  If I may, I  recommend the new F88, P88, or any of the Sigmax face or precision brushes.  The synthetic fibers are incredibly soft.  Since they are synthetic, they do not absorb excessive amounts of product.  Check them out and don't forget you will be getting this awesome liner brush!

Share the Love: Guru Spotlight-Happy Anniversary CosmeticCouturier

I MADE THIS BANNER IN PAINT....JUST FOR YOU! Another DanielleLovesGlitter Original!  :)

CONGRATULATIONS on your TWO YEAR YouTube ANNIVERSARY Grace! (Grace is known to many as CosmeticCouturier and MsCCVlogs on Youtube.)
CosmeticCouturier

This is not your run of the mill share the love blog post.  This is spotlight on Grace's channel (CosmeticCouturier) over the past two years. Grace has a degree in fashion design and she is also a licensed cosmetologist.

I started watching Grace around Christmas of 2010...you may ask how I remember this...even if you didn't...I am going to tell you obviously! ;)  My sister had moved away few months prior to go to college and I knew she would be coming home for a few days that Christmas. I was so excited and I really wanted to spoil her.  So I started doing research on some of the most popular holiday kits at the time.  One was the Tarte Treasure Chest.  Do you remember that?  Double layers?  Mattes on one layer, shimmers on the other?  A pull out drawer with highlighter, bronzer, eye pencils and lipglosses? Well, Grace was the first person I found who did a full review on it.  I noticed that she was doing a series of reviewing several holiday collections, so I subscribed.

I had always randomly commented or liked videos when I had time to watch and then one of her videos caught my eye.  She said she was revamping her makeup collection because she had found out certain brands were not cruelty free.  Grace is a vegan and I am a vegetarian.  We both have similar views (even if they are not exact all the time) on certain things.  We don't eat meat, we don't judge those who do, and we prefer products that are cruelty free.  This was the start of a fantastic friendship.

It wasn't until earlier this year we really started conversing and I have to say that we can go from the most serious issues to the most off the wall conversations ever.  I asked her several months ago to give me beverage alerts before coming out with her often dry, witty, sarcastic and hysterical comments.

There was also a really fun time in the beginning of our friendship when she was asking her subscribers what kind of looks they wanted to see.  I said "maybe something like an abalone shell using the Urban Decay BOS IV?"  I literally think she had it done within a week or two of me asking.  Knowing Grace, she probably had it done the next day but had other uploads to get up first.  She works REALLY hard, as many YT'ers do when it comes to their videos.  This particular video got picked up by The Haul! Grace has had a few videos featured on The Haul...so check them out too!

Here is the Abalone Shell Tutorial!

Just last week, she helped me with yet another look I was struggling with as I tend to get heavy handed with the brushes when I am nervous and didn't want to look overdone for an important meeting. She also gives a great pep speech...and you can catch a little bit of her funny side shine through here.

Here is the Young Professional Work Appropriate/Interview Look!

Some of my other favorite videos are (but not limited to):

Mila Kunis: Ted Premiere Recreate

Face Makeup Routine and New Hair

Billy B Inspired Brigitte Bardot/Raquel Welch (most recent tutorial)

Drew Barrymore Makeup Tutorial

Grace has an endless list of tutorials to go through and almost every look and color combination you can imagine.  Even if you don't have the same products, she makes sure to describe colors in the kind of detail that only artists pick up on.  She also focuses more on technique so ANYONE can follow along.  You don't have to be vegan or use only cruelty free products to learn from her tutorials. I have learned a lot of new and different techniques from her and tried looks that I probably wouldn't have otherwise.

In addition to her two YouTube channels, Grace also runs CosmeticCouturier In Print which is a great blog with reviews and great swatches and photos.

I wanted to do a share the love blog for Grace because she is an amazing artist, she listens to her subscribers, she takes requests, and she works really hard to continually upgrade the quality of her videos without losing sight of her beliefs.

Finally, I recommend checking out Grace's cooking channel. As a vegetarian or vegan, it is very easy to succumb to eating side dishes or carbs. Learning to eat a balanced diet as a non-meat eater is something I have learned from that channel.  Even if you aren't a vegan or a vegetarian, she offers some really different and exciting meals.  Particularly if you like food with some spice or enjoy veggies.

I have so many friends in the beauty community who do YouTube videos and write wonderful blogs.  I love you all equally.  I do intend on doing more spotlight videos...so let me know when your anniversaries are coming up!

Once again, Happy YouTube Anniversary Grace!  I appreciate your friendship immensely and keep on doing what you do!

xoxo

Did you know about National Lipstick Day? JULY 29

Apparently July 29th is National Lipstick Day!

It was about 3am on July 29, 2012 that I got a message alerting me that it was National Lipstick Day!  How exciting is that?  I can’t seem to find the origin of National Lipstick Day…but any day that celebrates lipstick or makeup is fine with me!

Lipstick is a very sentimental product for women.  It is probably as sentimental as fragrances can be.  One of the first items most little girls ask to put on is lipstick or lip-gloss. Most of us had some version of Smackers, Bonne Bell, Chapstick or another lip balm as children.

As with some of my other blogs, National Lipstick Day got me to thinking about some family memories of lipstick that I would like to share with you.

My Nana and my mom both loved the shade Cherries in the Snow by Revlon when I was a pre-teen.  So naturally, I wore it also.  I have vivid memories of my mom getting her nails done in the same color.  My Nana’s last Christmas with us, she asked me to do her makeup and she said “Danielle, make sure you use that red one I like.” (It was Cherries in the Snow)  Even back then I had backups of favorite products. I got another one of these a few years ago when I helped my sister move away to college.  I was so sad at the time; I just roamed the isles of CVS and picked it up when I saw it.

That same year, my cousin Jen came over for Christmas with my Aunt Maria.  When Jen arrived she had these really bold red lips.  She had the most amazing, natural full lips I have ever seen.  After dinner, when she went to my bathroom to fix her makeup she pulled out a tube of lipstick by L’Oreal.  It was such an odd shade to me (at the time); as it was a little bit brown and a little bit rosy.  I asked her what color and brand it was.  She told me that it was L’Oreal’s Rose Potpourri.  She handed me the tube to share as she did with many things and we descended back down to the Christmas party with our new nudish lip color.  My mom instantly noticed and said “WHAT is that COLOR,” as only my mom could do.  I laugh thinking about it.  Jen told my mom the brand and the name, then offered her the tube of lipstick.  My mom wouldn’t take it but wrote down the name and we went out and bought our own tubes a few days later.  Rose Potpourri has been discontinued for a very long time, but I would do anything to get my hands on it again.  Just to see it even.

My Seester and I usually have totally opposite tastes in lipsticks.  However, we do have a few mutual favorites. She likes to tease me that I love “Barbie” pink lips (and I do…sometimes).  Her current favorites as of this afternoon were by MAC and are called Hug Me, Please Me, Sequin, Fabby and Rebel

I can’t remember the name of the one my mom currently loves but it is a beautiful shade by Lorac.  I want to think it is called Kiss Me….but don’t quote me on that.

Finally, my current favorites would be:

·        Hourglass: Nocturnal
·        Tarte Lip Surgence: True Blood Limited Edition
·        Tarte Lip Surgence: Sweet
·        Tarte Lip Surgence: Adored
·        Tarte Lip Surgence: Frisky
·        Tarte Lip Surgence: Perky
·        MAC: Angel
·        MAC: Blankety
·        MAC: Viva Glam V
·        MAC: Viva Glam Gaga 1
·        MAC: Viva Glam Gaga 2
·        MAC: Snob

I hope to replace my MAC favorites when I finish them with some cruelty free products.  Too Faced has launched a new line of lipsticks that look amazing and I am in love with Hourglass lipsticks.

Dani

Tag: Five Products I Regret Buying

Haven't we all bought products that looked amazing under the wonderful fluorescent lighting of a department store only to get them home and be disappointed?  Often we get our makeup done in the store or at the very least test it on the back of our hand (otherwise known as swatching).  There are also times that we will buy products online, sight unseen because they have been so highly recommended or are the latest craze.  If I would have kept all of the products I have regretted over the past 10 years, I may have an entire steralite 3-drawer container full by now.

Here is a list of my five most regrettable cosmetic purchases.

1) Mally's Powder Foundation in Medium- I bought this in 2011 and it was not only much too dark for me, but it was quite orange.  The application sponge that it came with had a funny texture as well.  Almost like an exfoliation puff or something.

2) Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse Foundation- This was a very hyped up item in late 2010.  It claimed to be good for dry skin and to leave the skin flawless.  I saw different people using it in various ways.  Some used the sponge it came with while other's used a MAC 187 or a similar stippling brush. I liked the texture of the product.  I have always been a fan of cream/mousse products.  However, this product always felt as if it was sliding around on my face, became splotchy, oxidized, and worst of all it broke me out.

3) Urban Decay Midnight Cowboy-I bought this shadow as a single a very long time ago and have gotten it in palettes since then as well.  I can't speak to the new formulation of this shadow as I have not yet swatched it, but I could not stand the old formulation.  Rather than being a creamy neutral with glitter, it was almost as if there was no base color at all and only in glitter. If the glitter had stuck to my lid it might not have been THAT bad, but it instantly found its way under my eyes and to my cheeks instead.  There are other Urban Decay shadows with glitter fall out, but Midnight Cowboy was the worst in my eyes because there was no color pay off what-so-ever.

4) Laura Gellar's Waterproof Mascara- I cannot remember the exact name as I have thrown out the tube, but I do recall that it came in the Baked Vanilla kit (great kit by the way) and I believe the packaging was red.  I have shorter lashes and while I love volume, I also need length.  I also have sensitive eyes.  With that said I like a mascara that is neither too wet or too dry.  This waterproof mascara by Laura Gellar was extremely wet and gloppy.  It did nothing for my lashes except for perhaps darken them and make them look wet.  I had no definition and my lashes were weighed down.

5) MAC Cream Base in Pearl- This was one of those purchases where you feel bullied into buying a product.  I was with my Seester and we were with our favorite MAC makeup artist at the time and it was a fairly new product (at least to me).  He said this would be a perfect shadow, shadow base, and help to keep glitter eye shadows on. (I think we had purchased Sumptuous Olive and another shade of green that day as well).  As we all know, it creases! I could never tell how well it worked as a shadow base because it moved around the eye and creased.  It was one of the worst products I have used on my eyes (color cosmetics wise).

First Impressions: 100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream

I was so excited to receive the 100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream in the mail. I got a confirmation that it was being sent on Friday July 20, and I received it on July 23.

This came highly recommended to me by Grace from CosmeticCouturier on YouTube and the author of CosmeticCouturier In Print. She had found this product while looking for vegan skincare options.  I had told her I had been having sensitivity to the eye creams I had been using and she recommended I give 100% Pure Cosmetics a try.

My first impression of the packaging was that it was clearly a professional company that took a lot of pride in their products.  They securely packed it using foam peanuts.  They also used a cylinder made of recycled paper to create a protective barrier around the eye cream.  In addition,  there was a set of 6 sample packets of body lotions and a small Tom's toothpaste in a strawberry flavor for children.  I wasn't expecting any samples to be honest. To top it all off, the packets of sample lotions came in a cellophane baggie with a fabric ribbon in which the company's name was printed.

Now, my first impression of the actual Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream itself is what has blown me away.  This week I haven't slept much and I have been a little emotional.  Needless to say I have had some dark circles and puffiness.  Not necessarily bags, just a bit of swelling.  I put this on one eye and stared at myself for a good 3 minutes and I looked silly.  The eye that I had applied the cream to looked much more open, round, bright and awake; while the other eye was still a bit swollen and had a bit of darkness near the inner corners.

Over the past several days, I have noticed an increased difference in how awake I look, how hydrated the skin around my eyes has become, and that regardless of having a "not so great week"...you really can't tell by my eyes. I am extremely impressed with this product so far.  I can't wait to see how it performs on a normal week.

I was originally only going to use it in the mornings, but since you get a full once of product (with a sanitary pump for application); I believe I will use it morning and night.  On the tube of cream (rather than the box you throw away) is the open-jar warning that the cream is good for 6 months.  So, with that said, I will be using it both morning and night for now.

Originally, I was going to do a two week check in and a one month check in.  I think because I have already seen such dramatic results, I will check in again around the end of August to update you on the results.

TAG BLOG: 5 Products I Can't Wait to Get My Hands On

About a month ago now, I was tagged on Youtube by my friend Rachael of the Lashchronicles (Love her..you should sub to her channel)! However, I have been having a few issues trying to film this tag (black snow from my web cam ... if anyone knows how to fix this please let me know.  It is a built in web cam).  So I decided to do this as a blog for now.  Sorry Rachael.  I am working on the camera stuff! I do have a camcorder but have had trouble trying to transfer a family member's event from my camera to my computer.  As you can tell, I am new to making videos :)

So here is the tag: Five Products I am Dying to Get My Hands On

  1. The Urban Decay Smoked Pallete - I love the combination of mattes and shimmers as well as the full sized liner in Perversion.  Some of the jewel toned colors are colors I would have chosen for a build your own pallet from Urban Decay.
  2. 100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream -This was the first thing I thought of when it was tagged and I am happy to say it is currently in route to my home!  It was recommended to me by a friend (Grace-CosmeticCouturier) as a replacement for my current Origins eye cream.  Recently a lot of eye creams have been irritating my eyes, so I thought I would give something more organic a try.
  3. Tarte Maracuja Miracle Hydrating Foundation
  4. - This foundation really intrigues me since I tend to have dry skin year round and it only gets dryer in the winter. I did not buy it when it was on QVC because the shade ranges that I had seen swatch and reviewed seemed slightly yellow and darker than one would think.  People who are usually a normal were going for the light, etc.  If this is anything like the Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation, when they are released online and in stores, there may be a wider shade selection as well as the ability to get shade matched.
  5. Too Faced La Creme Lipstick in Stilleto Red- I am really excited to try these new lipstick formulations from Too Faced.  Particularly because the are Cruelty Free; but also because I have been really into red lips this summer.
  6. Hourglass Cosmetics Neo-Classic Eye Pallete- This is the 6th volume of a collection of Hourglass shadows and from the reviews I have read and seen, this is nearly an all matte pallete with one satin highlight shade. It is hard to find good matte shadows that are cruelty free. I have found previous shadow duos from Hourglass to have superior quality to many others and feel that the price tag for this would be a worthy investment.
  7. BONUS (Since one is already on its way to me) A replacement Sephora #55 airbush.  I lost mine on a trip up north somehow and I really enjoy using it for my highly pigmented/really bright blushes.

What are the items you can't wait to get a hold of? I know not everyone has a Youtube channel or even a blog.  So I tag CosmeticCouturier, Barbiedlux, Laceysmiles84, VeggieBeauty, Imacraftynurse, Jalapena2007, JG, and anyone else to do this tag.  You can put it on your Youtube channel, your blog, or in the comments below.  If you do it on your channel or blog, please put the link in the comments below so everyone can see. :)

Happy Monday!

Sunday Blues? Beauty Routine May Perk You Up!

Ever get the Sunday night blues while trying to face a Monday morning that is coming way too soon?  I have. In fact, several years ago I decided to dedicate Sunday afternoons and evenings to beauty and relaxing.

My typical Sunday routine includes doing errands or chores around the house in the morning so that my afternoon and evening can be free. Sunday is when I do all of my big beauty stuff to get ready for the week. Here is a sample of what I do and what products I am currently using:

I exfoliate with a salt scrub or rough textured loofah.  Deep condition my hair for 5-10 minutes with a hair mask like using either the Moroccan Oil Mask or the Enjoy Hair Mask. I also apply a generous amount of body butter immediately after drying off to get the most moisture I can.

My Sunday face routine varies each week.  Sometimes I will just use my Clarisonic (as I do every other night), the Kate Somverille ExfoliKate, a facial mask by NuSkin (one is hydrating and the other is for brightening), or I will use the NuSkin Galvonic Spa. I take a look at my skin and decide from there if I need a deeper exfoliation or perhaps just more moisture.

If I am in-between threading appointments (I have switched from waxing to threading this year) I go through and touch up my eyebrows with my trusty Tweezerman tweezers.

This is also typically the day I do my manicure and pedicure.  I know some people change their polishes quite often throughout the week.  I am lucky because for the most part my nail polish doesn't chip, it slowly wears down at the tip. I use a variety of products, so I can't give credit to that based on a singular nail product.  I do however try and keep my nails fairly short and that might be helping.

Sunday nights usually include a family dinner, so I will eat before doing my nails that way when my nails are drying I can chill out by watching T.V. or a movie.  I do not relax and get tired while reading so I save my reading for the during the week and Saturdays.

What do you guys do on Sundays to get ready for the week?  Do you do your major beauty things on Fridays to get ready for the weekend? Mid-week as a pick me up?

xoxo

Great Resources for Cruelty Free Cosmetics, Skin Care and Body Care.

In the past six months or so, I have found myself learning more about the way cosmetics are created and have been learning a lot about the process from the original inspiration to the completed product for sale.  Additionally, I have become better versed in testing procedures and which companies test on animals.

I am by no means an expert on the subject.  In fact, at the moment I would say that a good amount of my personal collection is not cruelty free, but I am not a wasteful person and will use what I have before finding suitable replacements.

I am a vegetarian bordering on vegan who loves animals.  This blog post is in no means meant to be preachy, nor is it to educate others on what is entailed in being cruelty free.  For education on that topic, I would refer you first to the Leaping Bunny website and then to YouTube vloggers like CosmeticCourturier, NYC Georgette, and VeggieBeauty. These women are very knowledgeable on the subject of being cruelty free and are a wealth of information when it comes to finding new products and letting you know what to look for.  Each has their own philosophy and I would encourage anyone who is still trying to figure out their own to listen and read about different philosophies and educate themselves.

During my hunt for more information on new products that did not test on animals; I was introduced to a new world of cosmetics, skin care and body care products that I wasn’t aware of before.  In some cases, I was aware but perhaps did not pay attention.  I have always supported mainstream cruelty free brands like Tarte, Urban Decay, Too Faced, Hourglass, and brushes from various brands made of synthetic or takelon hair.

Now, I have been introduced to a wide array of different cosmetic companies including indie brands that do not test their products on animals.  Several are vegan or have vegan options as well.  I have also come across some great websites that provide a variety of cruelty free products.

Some of my favorite sites/companies at the moment are:
  • 100% Pure- Color cosmetics, skin care, body care
  • WhiteRabbitBeauty-A variety of brands to suit your cosmetic needs
  • LeapingBunny-A great source of information that includes a consistently updated cruelty free list
  • Pumpkin and Poppy - Color cosmetics, fragrance
  • Glamour Doll Eyes-Known for their shadow collections, a color of the month club
  • Sigma-Brushes-makeup accessories, cosmetics

I encourage you to take some time for yourself and do a bit of research on the cosmetic creation process and ingredients used by different companies.  Get familiar with their processes and policies so that you can make purchasing decisions that go along with your belief system.  While you are on this journey for knowledge about your passion for makeup, you may just find some new companies and products that you really enjoy.

Please leave any comments and questions below, or feel free to email me at danilovesglitter@aol.com.
If you have a favorite cruelty free company or product, please leave it in the comments below so that everyone can take a look.

Have a FABULOUS weekend!

Whats in a Name? My Style Now!

Have you ever heard that phrase "whats in a name?"  I have... repeatedly.  I have to say there is much more to a name than I originally thought.  When I first named my social media outlets, I was thinking "Hmm, something I have always loved is glitter and everything that sparkles and shines."  What I failed to consider is how using the name DanielleLovesGlitter in social media could possibly limit me or put me into a niche' that I was not necessarily aiming for.
My old color wheel (haha)

Since childhood I have reached for makeup, jewelry, clothes and shoes that have a glittery or blingy look and feel.  As I am getting older, I feel that my choices while still more wild than some have gotten a bit more conservative.  Here is a breakdown of my current style in Makeup, Clothes & Shoes, Jewelry and Other Accessories.

Examples:
STYLE Makeup: I can’t picture wearing glitter overlays on my lids anymore (not to mention that 90’s/2000 look where you put glitter in c-shape of your outer eye when going out—unless it is Halloween or New Year’s Eve)…yet I won’t give up my glitter liquid liner for fun nights out.  I also feel that while I love glitter polishes, I reserve them more for holidays, accent nails and pedicures.  I prefer wearing more neutral makeup looks with pops of color usually with my eye liners or the color I use on my mobile lid.  I do wear a lot of color on my nails; it just is not as glittery as it used to be. At one point in time, I would go over every manicure with glitter polish.  In fact, one day my old boss and I decided to paint all of our office supplies with my glitter polish and I still have the calculator somewhere that is covered with silver glitter bars.

STYLE Clothes and Shoes: I have noticed that when I shop for clothes my style has changed there also.  Once male friend of mine once told me I had a rockabilly vibe.  I am not sure about that at all.  I do love glamming up my outfits a bit more when I go out at night, yet during the day I opt for more classic clothes.  If I do opt for a trendy piece I do not splurge on it.  While I love jeans and cute tops, I also love wearing dresses.  I like kitten type (or low heels) and platforms.  Stilettos (while I have a few pairs) are not really my style and are usually reserved for special occasions.  On an average day you will see me in jeans and some kind of top with sandals.  At night, I prefer dresses or skirts with cute tops and low heels or even boots.

STYLE Jewelry: When it comes to jewelry, my tastes are very eclectic.  They range from extremely blingy Austrian Crystals to more organic stones and woods.  I would say I really go for statement necklaces, rings and earrings…but try to limit it to one statement piece and one delicate piece.  I have a serious love of handmade jewelry.  One of my very best friends Erica makes the most amazing pieces of jewelry.  She has made me 3 or 4 bracelets and her craftsman ship and the time she takes to make these pieces just amazes me.  I also really like vintage or vintage looking pieces.  I have a few pieces of my Nana’s jewelry and I find those pieces very special. My mom who is a gold and diamonds fanatic has also given me beautiful classic pieces that I will always wear.

STYLE Other Accessories: I used to change purses or handbags constantly to match my outfit.  For some reason in the past few years I have really stayed away from that.  I usually change my bag for the season and have an evening bag that is smaller to carry if I go out.  I use a camel or light beige color in the summer and a black in the winter.  My go to evening bag is a cute coach signature black bag that my sister got me years ago.  It is simple, sleek and goes with anything.

When it comes to hair, I have definitely changed my style.  I used to wear a lot of glitter and jeweled hair accessories and in the past few years I have changed that.  Now I mostly go without hair accessories unless I pull my hair back and then I use a flower (usually from LaynieBugs Designs), one of the headbands my friend April sent me, or the colorful fabric hair ties from LaynieBugs Designs.

I just thought I would give my readers an update…at this point in time I won’t be changing my blog address or social media handles because guess what…DANIELLE STILL LOVES GLITTER!  However, I did want to let you know in what aspects and that glitter does not define my style and taste…it is just a part of me!

I hope you are all having a wonderful summer and truly enjoying yourselves.  Remember it is summer, be safe and wear your SPF friends!
