UPDATE: October is my favorite month of the year!

I have no idea why it is my favorite month of the year.  It could be because my hometown had actual seasons...well as close to California gets to having seasons. :)  The leaves would change, the flannel shirts would come out (kidding...kinda), we could dress really warm, it was just a lot of fun growing up.  By the beach, not much changes in the way of seasons unless you count the palm trees shredding and having to swerve around branches as not to pop your tires with the prickly tips.  Although, I think that is a myth.  I never heard of anyone who it actually happened to. haha

SIDENOTE: I don't really understand why anyone other than surfers would want to live by the beach after living here nearly half of my life.  I went to the beach MORE when I lived in the desert.  Perhaps it is because now I look at the contamination levels of the water, hear about spills, all the stuff that makes you say "ewww" to going in the ocean.  I think I have also been spoiled by swimming in the ocean surrounding both Hawaii and the Caribbean where it is warm and you can see your feet!

I also LOVE LOVE LOVE horror movies, horror and Halloween related events...so this is definitely the right month for me!  Dressing up in costumes, going to parties, just having fun!  Also, Yankee candles comes out with some great scents this month.  I have also heard a lot of buzz about Bath and Body Works new candle fragrance called Leaves.  I think I might try that out.  I usually order the pumpkin spice type scent from Party Lite at this time of the year, but I don't know anyone who sells it anymore.  Good thing, because I always get suckered by direct sales. :)

Also, October is Italian Heritage month!  Check out this site http://www.italianheritagemonth.com or Google Italian Heritage month for more information!  I am updating this blog because I also just found out this is Hispanic Heritage Month.  Both of my nationalities celebrated in one month!  I wish we had Italian festivals here.  The Hispanic Heritage Month starts September 15th and ends October 15th.  However, we have various festivals and celebrations all year in my area. For more info on Hispanic Heritage month go here.

So what do you all love about October?

Boscia Skin Care Review

This review has been a long time coming.  I began using the really long wearing cosmetics this summer as I had many events to go to that were in the desert area and I didn't want my makeup running down my face.  Well, the problem with many of these long wearing formulas are that the skin care we used to use doesn't work as well to take off this type of makeup.  I tried cold creams, makeup remover wipes, washing my face three times with one of my favorite cleansers...it just either didn't work or dried out my skin.

In August, I was in San Jose. At some point during this trip, we went to San Jose's version of the Beverly Center (I cannot remember the name, but it is quite beautiful for a mall).  I immediately ran to Sephora to grab some eye shadows I had seen reviewed by one of my favorite "gurus" on youtube.  I also told the sales lady I was having a hard time taking off some of my makeup.  She recommended I try Boscia.  She described it as an oil.  As soon as she said oil, my mind was thinking "Lady you are out of your mind!"  She gave me a small Sephora sample, but the heat somehow popped open the cap and it spilled in the trunk.  Luckily it was small.

I did receive some samples a week later from the company.  They sent me the following:

  • Soothing Cleansing Cream
  • Vital Daily Moisture SPF 15
  • A Medium tinted Moisturizer
  • Enlivening Amino-AG Eye Treatment
  • Blotting papers in Green Tea
  • Makeup-Breakup Cool Cleansing Oil
I will start off with the cleansing cream.  I use that in the mornings when my makeup is already off.  It feels good and refreshing.  A simple cleansing cream that cleanses my dry/combination skin without irritating it or breaking it out. I am currently out and I have to say, I much prefer this over my old standby.

The Vital Daily Moisture SPF 15 worked well also.  I felt moisturized, and was glad it had sun protection.  My only negative on this product is that I really try not to tan anymore at all, as I used to be "tanorexic" and have a lot of freckles and hyper-pigmentation.  I think I would have liked perhaps an SPF 30-45.  Other than that, I really enjoyed the lightness of this moisturizer while it still hydrated my skin.  It also worked great under all of my different face products including; primers, tinted moisturizers I am trying to use up that don't moisturize much, pancake type makeup, mousse makeup and my long wearing foundations.

The Enlivening eye treatment is one of my other favorite products from this company!  I am an eye cream junkie.  This is so light, yet moisturizing.  I used to use a brand that is hard to find now, and it was heavy and greasy.  I noticed even with how heavy it was I was getting fine lines.  With the Boscia Enlivening Eye Cream, I would look awake and moisturized all day.

The Medium tinted moisturizer was also really nice.  Much more moisturizing than my other moisturizers with tints.  However, I did use a little bit of the Vital Daily Moisture with it because I like when my skin feels really hydrated (not greasy).  It was light coverage, but something in the formula made my skin luminous enough to be fine without wearing heavier foundation.  Luminous girls...not oily. ;)

Now to my favorite product...one of my new "Holy Grail Products"....The Makeup-Breakup Cooling Cleansing Oil.  I was terrified this would break me out.  The directions are to apply it on dry skin and work it around and basically watch your makeup melt off.  It worked.  I had on my most stubborn primers for my foundation and eyeshadow as well as a very long wearing foundation and waterproof mascara.  Within a minute or two, it was gone.  All I did was rinse my face...spray it with some other organic toner I still have, and put my organic and lightening night cream on.  My skin has changed so much since I started using this product.  It is not as dry as it used to be at all.  I don't wake up with leftover makeup residue.  It really takes it all off and leaves you with silky smooth skin.

I also want to touch on the blotting papers.  I have used blotting papers for awhile now to dab away any perspiration without ruining my makeup as well as dabbing any oily areas in my T-zone.  I have been on a budget, so I grabbed the Sephora brand in Tea Tree and Lavender.  Granted, I haven't gotten to the lavender pack let....but the Tea Tree ones are so strong that my purse reeks and I took them out weeks ago.   I also found those to be a bit irritating to my eyes.  Boscia sent me a pack of Green Tea blotting papers and I am in love!  They have several other scents and I plan on purchasing all of them.  I think every woman should have them in her purse or makeup bag and their car.  I noticed that by using blotting papers, I don't have to touch up really and my makeup looks perfect.  Some women reapply powder all day and end up looking cakey when the powder settles into their skin.

The scents Boscia offer are:

  1. Green Tea Blotting Linens
  2. Fresh Blotting Linens
  3. Lavender Blotting Linens
  4. Rose Blotting Linens. Part of the proceeds go to breast cancer research.  You can help this October while treating yourself.
  5. California Orange Blotting Linens
  6. Peppermint Blotting Linens
That is my review of Boscia so far and I would like to thank the people from Boscia for sending these samples out so that I can review them for all of you.  As many of you know from my previous blog, I am doing a bottom of the bottle project and trying to save money by using what I have.  However, I did purchase the Cleansing Oil because it is just THAT AMAZING!  I do have a wish list of the things I want to purchase and I am going to list them here so you can check them out at www.boscia.net or at your local Sephora or Ulta stores.

1) The Black Mask (This is very popular, a peel off mask, and usually sold out in stores, so try the site)
2) The Rose Blotting papers
3) The Passport to Beauty Kit called Comfort Cruise to Line-less Skin (Great for travel as well)
4) The Jujube Rejuvinist Body Cream (Whipped) Sounds soooo good!
5) Jujube Rejuvenist Amino Body Wash
6) Daily Hand Revival Therapy SPF 15 (this is an anti-aging product for your HANDS!)

That covers most of the catalog.  I will be purchasing these products one by one as I run out of my others.  This is my new go to skin care brand for pretty much everything!

I do think this are very reasonably priced skin care products considering what an amazing job they do for your skin.  My oil was only $26 I believe, and it will last a long time.  These products are made using botanical products.  There is no animal testing, nor are there any animal ingredients within these products.  As a vegetarian and member of Peta, I love this!  There is an expiration date on the box of my oil and it is dated from 1 and a half years from when I bought it.  So, I will be using this every night as a little goes a long way and I intend to use every drop!

You can follow Boscia Skin Care on Twitter @bosciaskincare and their website is listed as www.boscia.com.  The company is located in my state!  Woo hoo!  I wonder if they would let me come down and take a tour of the plant! I would love that.  I am so into that kind of stuff. Does that make me a geek?  Oh well if it does, that is me! :)

Love you all and I hope you enjoyed this review!  Please ask questions if you have any or let me know if you tried this product and what you thought about it! :)

XOXO

*Disclaimer, I was sent samples by this company but was not compensated.  These are my honest opinions.

Shopping your own makeup collection

In these hard times, I think many of us sometimes may turn to shopping as an escape from our problems or concerns.  I know that personally, if I am upset, for some reason I buy makeup and it instantly makes me feel better.

What I have been doing lately to try and save money is shopping my own makeup collection.  Let me explain how I do this.  I love watching youtube beauty tutorials (I have several favorite "gurus" I will discuss later).  I also enjoy looking through magazines and various beauty books and trying to recreate looks.

Instead of going out to buy a pallet that people are using on youtube or makeup described in a book, I study the colors and look through my collection and find something comparable (or "dupes").  This has helped me save a lot of money in searching for some of the popular fall shades of eye makeup.

If for whatever reason you do not have many colors, there are a lot of options out there that are good and inexpensive options.  For example, CoastalScents.com has a pallet of 88 shadows for only $25.00.  One item I plan on purchasing from the company is their blush pallet which has 10 blushes for only $15.00.  I may be off a few cents on each of the prices, but those are the general prices.  There are a ton of pallets and I encourage you to look.  This is a very inexpensive way to get good, quality shadows in a variety of shades without breaking the bank.

Also, If you are looking for makeup brushes and particularly if you know you already like MAC brushes, you should check out the sets of Sigma brushes.  These are available on Sigmabeauty.com or by clicking on the banner to your right.  For a approximately the same price of 3 MAC face brushes, you can get an entire set of 15 face, eye and lip brushes in a brush roll.  Does it get better than that?  I don't think so. :)  I am a bargain hunter though.

I also recommend shopping at Sephora for any high end makeup you want/need because you earn points towards free gifts.  I am embarrassed to say that this year I have earned several free gifts. :)  However, I am not unhappy about it in the least. haha.

Let me know which looks you are liking or wanting to try, which colors you are interested in for fall and I will try and create some tutorials for you personally!

Don't forget to subscribe to my new blog!
